interactive end cards.

An interactive end card (IEC, or playable end card) is a short playable that appears when a video ad finishes. Instead of a static install screen, the viewer gets a few seconds of hands-on play, then the install button. It's built like any playable (HTML5, under 5 MB, the network's install call) and runs on networks including Unity, Moloco, Liftoff and Chartboost.

Static end card vs interactive end card

Static end cardAn image or simple screen with the app icon, a line of copy and an install button. Nothing to do but tap install or close.
Interactive end cardA short playable: one mechanic from the game, a quick payoff, and the install button on screen throughout.
Built asStatic: an image or simple HTML. Interactive: an HTML5 playable, to the same network spec as a full playable.

How an interactive end card works

  1. The video plays. On Unity it's a 15–60 second video; the end card can load in the background while it runs.
  2. The end card takes over when the video ends. It must wait until it's actually visible before it starts, so it doesn't run hidden behind the video.
  3. The viewer plays a few seconds of the mechanic the video just showed.
  4. A tap on install calls the network's install function and opens the store.

Which networks run interactive end cards

  • Unity Ads: a 15–60 second video followed by a playable end card, in rewarded and interstitial.
  • Moloco: interactive end cards (IEC) after a video, built to the same single-HTML spec as its playables.
  • Liftoff (Vungle): playables run as full-screen interstitials and as interactive end cards after a video.
  • Chartboost: interstitial and rewarded, and as an end card after a video.
  • TikTok runs a related format: the ad starts as a video, a button invites the viewer to play, and an end card asks for the install.

Interactive end card specs

On each network, an interactive end card follows the same rules as a full playable: the same file format, the same 5 MB limit, the same install call and no network requests. The differences are practical:

  • Start fast. The viewer has already watched a video, so there's no room for a slow load.
  • Respect visibility. If it loads during the video, it must wait until it's shown (on MRAID networks, isViewable and viewableChange; see MRAID explained).
  • Keep it short. One gesture and a quick payoff, not a full level.

The exact format for each network is in our playable ad specs.

What makes an interactive end card convert

  • Continue the video. Same scene, same characters, same moment, so the viewer finishes what the video started.
  • One tap to start, with a hand pointer and no instructions to read.
  • Payoff in seconds: a big clear, a rescue, a win.
  • Install button on screen from the first frame, not only at the end.
  • Match the video's orientation, and still handle rotation where the network requires it.

Interactive end card or full playable?

Use an interactive end card when you already have video ads that work and want more installs from the same impressions. Use a full playable when the gameplay itself is the selling point and deserves the whole ad. Many teams run both. If your video is the strongest part of the ad, a video playable is a third option: the footage itself becomes interactive.

Common questions

What is an interactive end card?

A short playable that appears when a video ad ends, replacing the static install screen. The viewer plays for a few seconds, then taps install.

What's the difference between an end card and an interactive end card?

A standard end card is a static screen with the app icon and an install button. An interactive end card is a small HTML5 playable with the install button built in.

Which networks support interactive end cards?

Unity Ads, Moloco, Liftoff and Chartboost run playables as end cards after a video. TikTok runs a related video-then-playable format.

Do interactive end cards have different specs from playable ads?

Generally no. They use the network's playable spec: the same file format, 5 MB limit on most networks and install call. They should start fast and wait until they're visible.

Can you add an interactive end card to an existing video ad?

Yes. We build an end card that continues your video's scene and package it for each network you run.
